Program Summary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu, Nepal:

Your GAP Year in Nepal begins at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM), where you’ll be greeted with a traditional Khada. After a smooth immigration process, you'll be transferred to your accommodation in a private car. On the drive, you’ll get a taste of Kathmandu’s vibrant streets and culture. Once settled in, you'll have time to relax and prepare for the exciting experiences ahead.

Day 02 - 03: Kathmandu Valley Exploration | Gap Year Program in Nepal

Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple)
On Day 2, visit Swayambhunath, also known as the Monkey Temple. It’s one of the most famous Buddhist stupas in Nepal. While exploring the temple, you’ll learn about Buddhist practices and the meaning behind the symbols found here. This visit will give you a great introduction to Nepal’s spiritual life.

Pashupatinath Temple
Next, visit Pashupatinath Temple, one of the most sacred Hindu temples in Nepal. Here, you’ll witness Hindu ritualsand cremation ceremonies by the Bagmati River. It’s a unique chance to understand the deep spiritual practices of Hinduism and how they shape life in Nepal.

Boudhanath Stupa
On Day 3, explore Boudhanath Stupa, a significant site for Tibetan Buddhists. Watch a prayer wheel ceremony and learn about the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Walking around the stupa, you’ll experience the calm and peaceful atmosphere while discovering more about Tibetan culture.

Cultural Learning

Day 04 - 05: Visit to UNESCO sites Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Squares

Bhaktapur Durbar Square
On Day 4 of your Gap Year Program in Nepal, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bhaktapur Durbar Square. This historical area is famous for its ancient temples, palaces, and traditional Nepali architecture. Explore the rich Nepali culture and history, making it a must-see destination for those in cultural immersion programs or interested in Nepal’s heritage.

Pottery Workshop
A highlight of the day is a hands-on pottery workshop in Bhaktapur. Here, you will learn traditional Nepali pottery-making techniques, a craft deeply rooted in the community's history. Patan Durbar Square

Day 06: Welcome to Your Nepali Home

Your gap year adventure in Nepal begins as soon as you arrive in the village. From the moment you step off the bus, you’ll be greeted with warm smiles and open arms. Your local guide will introduce you to your host family, who will make you feel like you’ve been part of their family all along.

You’ll take a tour of the village, get to know your new surroundings, and settle into your cozy home. The village may be different from what you’re used to, but the warmth of the people and the peacefulness of the place will make you feel right at home. Your first dinner with your host family will be a traditional Nepali meal, full of delicious flavors and love.

Day 07 - 09: A Day of Learning and Helping

On this Day, you’ll begin to see what life in a Nepali village is really like. You’ll wake up early to help with morning chores like milking cows, feeding animals, or helping with farm tasks. It’s hard work, but you’ll feel good knowing you’re helping out and learning new skills.

After a traditional Nepali breakfast of rice, lentils, and vegetables, you’ll head to the local school. Here, you’ll meet the children, learn about their education system, and perhaps even help them with their studies. The children will love meeting you, and you’ll love seeing how eager they are to learn, despite the simple resources.

In the afternoon, you’ll have some free time to explore the village or enjoy a peaceful walk through the farmlands. Take your time and let the beauty of Nepal’s countryside fill your heart. In the evening, you’ll spend time with your host family, maybe learning a Nepali dance or just sitting together enjoying each other’s company.

Day 10: Hiking Through Nature’s Beauty

One of the best parts of a gap year in Nepal is the chance to experience its stunning natural beauty. On Day 3, you’ll hike to a nearby viewpoint, where you’ll get a panoramic view of the mountains, forests, and villages. The hike is gentle but rewarding, and along the way, you’ll see the lush, green landscape that makes Nepal so special.

At the top, you’ll have some quiet time to reflect and take in the breathtaking views. This is your moment to appreciate the peace and beauty of the world around you. You’ll return to the village feeling refreshed and grateful for the experience.

Day 11: Exploring a Neighboring Community

Today, you’ll venture to a neighboring village to see how other communities live. Every village in Nepal has its own unique traditions and way of life, and this tour will give you a broader view of Nepali culture.

You’ll explore the farms in the neighboring community, learn about different crops, and meet the people who call this village home. The local guide will introduce you to the community, and you’ll have the chance to ask questions and share your own experiences.

Afterward, you’ll head back to your host family and spend the evening with them. Maybe you’ll help with some farmwork or just relax together. The connections you’re making will make you feel like you truly belong here.

Day 12: Cultural Immersion and Farewell Celebration

Your last day in the village is all about cultural immersion. You’ll have the chance to cook a traditional Nepali mealwith your host family. Whether it’s making momos (dumplings) or learning how to cook dal bhat (lentils and rice), you’ll feel proud of your cooking skills and share a delicious meal with your new friends.

In the afternoon, you’ll help with farmwork again or spend time learning more about the community’s sustainable practices. Then, in the evening, the village will throw a cultural show to honor you. There will be traditional dances, music, and flower garlands. This is their way of saying thank you for being part of their lives, and it’s a beautiful moment you’ll never forget.

Day 13: Back to Kathmandu, Thamel

After your time in the village, you'll return to Kathmandu, Nepal’s lively capital. This is a chance to explore the city, visit famous landmarks, or relax before heading home. Take in the vibrant culture, beautiful temples, and the bustling streets. Your time in Kathmandu will be the perfect way to wrap up your Gap Year Program in Nepal before your journey back. Thamel is a lively neighborhood in Kathmandu, famous for its vibrant streets, shops, cafes, and restaurants. Popular with travelers, it's the perfect spot to explore Nepali culture, shop for souvenirs, and enjoy delicious food.

Day 14: Final Day  | Departure from Nepal

On your last day in Nepal, you'll have time to relax and reflect on your unforgettable journey. The kindness of the people, the beautiful nature, and the simple way of life will stay with you forever. After breakfast, you'll head to your next destination or return home, carrying with you the memories of your time in the community and the lessons you've learned during your Gap Year in Nepal.
