Beautiful villages in Annapurna

The villages of the Annapurna are a much loved and hugely important part of trekking and tourism in the region. Not only are they a place for trekkers to rest, refresh and recuperate, they provide a fascinating insight into the culture of Nepal and the Annapurna. The villages are a beautiful and integral part of Annapurna trekking. 

Ghandruk

Ghandruk Village is a mountain village nestled in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas, located 2,000 m above sea level. Filled with shops and tea houses and surrounded by stunning mountain views, Ghandruk is a trekker's dream. Resting in the foothills, Ghandruk is known as the gateway to the Annapurna. The village often provides trekkers with their first view of the magnificent Himalayas. Ghandruk is also rich in its biodiversity and has an abundance of beautiful flora and fauna. The village is also part of the Annapurna Conservation area so its stunning natural surroundings are being protected! Meaning it can be enjoyed for generations. With a stunning location and great hospitality you might not want to leave!

Lwang Ghalel -

Famous for its organic Himalayan tea farming, Lwang Ghalel is a favourite stop among trekkers. There is just so much to do and see in the village itself! Situated on a vantage point, the village has incredible views over Machhapuchhre, Himchuli, Annapurna II, and Annapurna South. Its organic tea farms surround the village, you can visit them during your stay. The home stays in Lwang Ghalel are some of the best in Annapurna, offering trekkers an authentic cultural experience. It is truly special. Locals harbour a strong desire to protect and preserve their local culture and surrounding environment and they therefore take great pride in the maintenance of their traditional way of life. 

Sikles

Located in the Kaski district, Sikles is home to the indigenous Gurung people and is one of the oldest and largest Gurung villages in the area. Gurung culture is proudly on display here, with locals wearing their traditional dress whilst carrying out daily activities! Make sure to visit Sikles Park whilst there, this point boasts stunning views of Lamjung Himal (6,983m) - we recommend you come here for the sunrise. The village and its popular trekking route is managed by the Annapurna Conservation Project meaning that its unique culture and stunning surroundings are protected and maintained so they can be enjoyed for many generations to come.

Panchase

The Panchase area is rich in biodiversity and home to a variety of flora and fauna, from temperate forests to lush green pastures. It is an orchid paradise! There are 113 known species of wild orchid growing in the area. The village itself lies at an altitude of 2,500m and is perfect for those travellers seeking a short trip filled with cultural and natural delights. One notable landmark in the area is Panchase Hill, people travel from far and wide to pay tribute to their deceased ancestors. Here, they perform rituals and provide offerings to the mountain spirits. It also has excellent views over the Himalaya! Perfect for those wanting to avoid the crowds, Panchase and its trek is relatively unknown and therefore much quieter than other treks/villages in the region. 

Sarangkot

Known for its stunning sunrise and sunset views over the Annapurna Massif, Sarangkot is popular among day trippers. This small village sits high in the mountains at an altitude of 1600m and is home to around 7000 people. Sarangkot is close to the lakeside city Pokhara. The village's viewpoint boasts panoramic Himalayan views of Annapurna, Manaslu and Dhaulagiri as well as incredible views over Phewa Lake and Pokhara itself. Whilst its viewpoint is its main draw, increasingly people have been flocking to the village to go paragliding and it has consistently been rated as one of the best paragliding destinations in the world!

Ghale Gaun

Nestled at the foot of Lamjung Himal is the village of Ghale Gaun. Its surrounding scenery is pristine and its indigenous Gurung culture has been expertly preserved and is proudly displayed to any visitors. Sitting at an elevation of 2,100m, just 12.5km northeast of Pokhara, Ghale Gaun is known as Asia’s model tourism village. It is also considered the best homestay destination in South Asia! From the village you will have incredible views over the Western Himalaya including; Annapurna II and IV, Machhapuchhre, Lamjung Himal, Boudha Himal and Himal Chuli. Known for their hospitality, the Gurung people will welcome you with open arms, you will be treated to delicious locally grown food and performances of traditional dances and music. It truly is a special place. 

 

The villages of the Annapurna are attractions in and of themselves, each with something different to offer. Whilst all are unique, the local people are incredibly welcoming and their hospitality is exceptional. We would definitely recommend a visit to one of these villages as they will add something really special to your trip.
